Complacent

As a parent, if there is one thing I have learned is not to get complacent. Just when you think you know your children, they change on you.

On one of our hot North Carolina days, I was at an indoor play place with Dillon and Alyssa. Since I have two little angels to keep an eye on, I decide to focus most of my attention on my little terror. (AKA Alyssa) Anyone that knows her will tell you that she can be a sweetheart, but she can also be a hellion. I was following my lil' rebel around when a mom, whom I didn't know, stopped me. She noticed that I was the mom of Dillon, and she informed me he was pinching other kids. I thought Dillon had outgrown these "toddler-like" behaviors. Boy, was I wrong. Just 10 minutes before that mom came up to me, I was telling my friend that Dillon was getting to the point where I didn't have to watch him too closely--you know because he's such a good boy. I guess the man upstairs heard me and decided to teach me a lesson!

(I found out later from Dillon that he was trying to "trade" toys with these victims, but that's another story.)
